Talisman Pendants (tcherot)

Talisman boxes (tcherot in Tamashek, the Tuareg language) contain written verses
of the Quran to protect the wearer, to give strength or to ensure fertility.
At the age of 17, a Tuareg girl receives from her mother a tcherot and
a khomissar pendant (see above) as part of her ascension into womanhood.
They are also worn by men in certain Tuareg tribes usually affixed
